Free Range Exhibition- Photography
Ok so we’ve been rubbish at blogging/ haven’t blogged at all since our introductory blogs.
BUT.. the hours of sunlight are getting shorter, Uni is over till September and i’m ready to report on stuff!
so BRICK LANE SUNDAYS.
The CT’s united for some exhibition exploring at the Free Range Exhibition, where amongst others The University of Northampton was displaying their best work.
Backing the UoN alumni Anna Underwood displayed a powerful collection of portraits depicting an extensive family. She posed the question, whether we are truly individual or just replicas of bits of other people. A blatant stare into the relationships of others, giving us the ability to freely scrutinise the appearance of a family, looking at what features they have inherited and analysing their characteristics.
PIP CREE‘s thought provoking and mysterious approach to sex abuse was fascinating and eery. A book of objects and descriptions, making you question the relevance of the objects, and why they are so important. Aiming to raise awareness by showing how ‘normal’ households can disguise ‘A Very Painful Experience’.
Always a fan of an interactive exhibit, Louise Southgate invited on lookers to leave a photographic trace of their visit. We gladly took the snaps in the photobooth and left our trace on the wall.
Thea Kamilla Jonassen presented a reality check about the use of technology in the 21st century. Capturing what we see around us every day, exploring how technology isolates us when we are in a social environment, and how we think we are socialising but really our social skills are melting away into our handsets. This is something that already interests me in our evolving technological environment, Thea really compelled a thought provoking message about something we are all guilty of.
For me the best piece was from Thomas Wynn. His heart felt video ‘Mary’ of an elderly lady suffering from dementia was both moving and eye opening. A menial task of making a cup of tea so simply shown, yet so difficult to undertake for Mary. Watching this you really willed her on to make it right, the length and filming of the video is really quite beautiful.
After an eye aching day of studying photographs it was off to Rivington street festival, desperadoes and dancing a plenty! This gave me a great chance to show off my new Festival Specs from the Backyard market i bought earlier in the day! result!
